Art Director
A 30-sec stop-motion spot for Super Bowl Sunday featuring six unique locations representing destinations around the world for Ken to travel to and experience.
Leading a team of fabricators and painters, we used a combination of 3D modeling/printing, laser cutting, prop/set model making and the use of existing assets from Mattel.
Plane
Ken sees an Expedia plane in the sky.
An R/C plane, was modified, its model seams body shopped, foam surfaces coated, and had a pick point mounted for motion control photography
Malibu Beach
A pristine southern California beach for Lifeguard Ken. Elements included the beach chairs and umbrellas, foreground rocks, the lifeguard tower and various props.
Other inserts included larger scale hands and phone for a scrolling shot, and a larger scale suitcase filled with travel items.
Plane Interior
Ken travels by plane. Elements included three rows of airplane seats with a curved wall behind.
Japan
Ken visits a Japanese ryokan. Elements included the roof piece, laser cut shoji dividers, tatami mats. Interior table, pillows, paper lantern and tea set. Exterior railing and trees.
Mexico
Ken arrives at a colorful hotel in Mexico. All buildings were modeled and fabricated. Elements included planter boxes, papel picado, window mullions and curtains, and trees. Additional Mattel assets were used to populate the rest of the set.
Montana
Ken visits a Montana horse ranch on rolling grassland. Elements included distant a ranch house and barns, a scale fence, hay bales and sign post.
Italy
Ken drives through a Tuscany landscape. A miniature scale version was built for an aerial view of Ken's car to be comped into. All grass fields, vegetation, trees, roads and houses were fabricated practically.
Ken Driving
A custom car for Ken's driving shots. A moving road and fore/background elements were built for animation. The car and puppet were to stay in place.
Insert shots include larger scale section of the dashboard with mounted phone.
